Glaswegian five-piece Acrylic had made a name for themselves in Scotland but were looking to take it to the next level, reaching a larger audience with their return with another melodic indie anthem ‘Post Punk For The Abyss’. After only a few weeks, we secured national radio play, online coverage on large publications and Spotify Official playlist placement.
Being from Scotland, we wanted to take advantage of their roots, so focused on regional radio plays to build a portfolio of radio support to approach the national radio stations. Soon, we’d secured a play on the Scottish BBC, BBC Radio Nan Gàidheal. We then focused on national radio, securing a ‘Track Of The Day’ placement on Amazing Radio with Jim Gellatly and play on Union Jack Radio.
Prior to release, we focused on securing genre specific coverage and a premiere, which would mean we were in a stronger position when approaching Spotify. Before release day, a premiere ran on established blog XS Noize and then a feature on Hidden Herd. This coverage acted as credibility, giving us the opportunity to push to Spotify Editors with a stronger pitch.
With no previous success on Spotify, we focused on genre specific playlists that would trigger Spotify’s algorithm, leading to organic streams and growth for Acrylic. Alongside branded and user-curated playlists, we secured the Spotify Official playlist Hot New Bands.
